App Store Keyword Search Volume & Difficulty Checker

Type any keyword to see its estimated search volume, ranking difficulty, and opportunity score on the App Store, plus the apps ranking for it right now and related keyword ideas. No signup, 20 storefronts.

Estimated search volume

A 0–100 popularity score modelled from live App Store demand signals: competition depth, top-app rating volume, and recent rating velocity.

Difficulty score

See how entrenched the top apps are before you commit a keyword to your title or subtitle. Low difficulty plus real volume is the goal.

Opportunity + related ideas

An opportunity score blends volume against difficulty, and related keywords surface adjacent terms worth targeting next.

How the scores work

Apple doesn’t publish keyword search volumes, so every ASO tool models them. Rather than guess, we read the live App Store: how many apps compete for a term, how much total rating volume the top-ranked apps carry, and how many new ratings they’ve earned recently. That produces a search volume score that tracks genuine, active demand.

Difficulty looks at how hard the incumbents are to displace: their rating counts, whether they already put the keyword in their app name, and how high their ratings sit. The opportunity score rewards keywords with strong demand and beatable competition, so you can spot the terms actually worth fighting for.

Frequently asked questions

How is App Store keyword search volume calculated?
There is no official Apple search-volume API, so every ASO tool estimates it. Our popularity score is a 0–100 model built from live App Store data: how many apps compete for the keyword, the total rating volume of the apps ranking at the top, and how many new ratings those top apps have earned in the last 30 days. A high score means real, active demand, not just a term that exists.
What does the difficulty (competition) score mean?
Difficulty is a 0–100 estimate of how hard it is to rank in the top results for the keyword. It rises when the top-ranking apps have huge rating counts, when they already put the keyword in their app name, and when they hold very high average ratings. A high-popularity, low-difficulty keyword is the sweet spot, and that is what the opportunity score surfaces.
Is this keyword tool really free?
Yes. You can check the popularity, difficulty, and opportunity scores for any keyword, see the top apps ranking for it, and get related keyword ideas without signing up or entering a card. Creating a free AppGrowKit account unlocks the full ranking table, historical rank trends, the complete related-keyword list, and the ability to track keywords over time.
Which countries and App Store storefronts are supported?
You can check keywords across 20 major storefronts including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and more. Search behaviour and competition differ by country, so a keyword that is easy in one market can be brutal in another. Always check the storefronts you actually publish in.
How current is the ranking data?
Rankings come from our App Store catalog, which is crawled continuously. Each result shows when it was last observed. Very long-tail or newly coined keywords may not be indexed yet. Sign in and the platform can queue a fresh crawl for them.
How should I use these scores for ASO?
Target keywords with strong popularity but manageable difficulty, and make sure they are genuinely relevant to your app. Put your highest-opportunity terms in your app name and subtitle (Apple weights those most), then fill the 100-character keyword field with the rest. Re-check periodically, because competition shifts as new apps launch.
